(we think) ive tried using the rocovery partition and it fails saying failed to load the image or something. Ive tried download windows 7 from microsoft and entered my cd key and it said unable to supply with windows 7 iso because my windows came pre installed (i think thats what it said) i tried download windows 7 iso from cnet or something and had it installed like 60% expanding files then it said i dont have all the required files. We, as moderators, have found that legitimate OEM ISOs will not validate under Microsoft's new ISO Download policies. Of course, they are perfectly within their rights as any OEM version of Windows is only supported by those who installed the OEM version (in your case, ACER). In theory, a legitimate Windows 7 ISO matching the version of Windows initially installed on your friend's laptop, with a valid Windows 7 Product Key (listed on the sticker attached at the bottom of your friend's laptop) *should* work.
