The laptop is an acer aspire 7741-6445 model no: ms2309 my friend lost their installation cd. (we think) ive tried using the rocovery partition and it fails saying failed to load the image or something. Ive tried download windows 7 from microsoft and entered my cd key and it said unable to supply with windows 7 iso because my windows came pre installed (i think thats what it said) i tried download windows 7 iso from cnet or something and had it installed like 60% expanding files then it said i dont have all the required files. I really dont want to pay the 19.99 for the acer recovery cd is that my only option or what? Windows 7 Ultimate Sp1 Unattended here. Does anyone have a windows 7 home premium iso? 64 bit or 32 bit would work.
Umm digital river doesnt seem to work either thanks in advance. Microsoft used to. They've changed their system so that only if you purchased a Retail version can you get a replacement ISO from them.
We, as moderators, have found that legitimate OEM ISOs will not validate under Microsoft's new ISO Download policies. Of course, they are perfectly within their rights as any OEM version of Windows is only supported by those who installed the OEM version (in your case, ACER). In theory, a legitimate Windows 7 ISO matching the version of Windows initially installed on your friend's laptop, with a valid Windows 7 Product Key (listed on the sticker attached at the bottom of your friend's laptop) *should* work. Isnt there a way to delete the oem partition.

When you have issues with OEM keys it means 'Pick up the phone and call Microsoft' They will verify that you have a legitimate Key sticker, simple tell them you are replacing the hard drive. Microsoft does not provide technical support for OEM versions of Windows. For instance, if you're constantly getting BSODs and you have a retail version of Windows, you can contact Microsoft and they'll assist you. If you have an OEM version of Windows and you contact Microsoft, they'll tell you to contact whomever built the system.
